Hawaiian Turkey Burgers

This post is a long time coming.  We are closet non-griller people.  Years ago we had a grill but it wasn't a good grill so when we moved we left it behind.  We moved into a rental that had an equally sub-par grill that the owner had left on the deck. It sucked so much that for five years we remained a family who did not cook out.

Fast forward to moving to the suburbs, a larger house, and a back yard that is all our own to outfit as we pleased.  In just a few weeks we will have been in this house for two years and I've been longing for backyard grill outs since we moved in.  This year for Father's Day I searched for the perfect grill for our little family and finally settled on a Weber gas grill with all the accessories.  This past weekend my husband broke it out of the box and put it together (not too bad of an experience, if you are wondering) and this was our first attempt at grilling in what seems like a billion years.

It was a bit of trial and error but my grilling hubby got down this burger grilling thing in no time flat.  I guess it's like riding a bike, you don't really forget how you do it once you learn.

I love my tupperware tool that measure out the meat for patties for me.

Happy grilling husband doing his thing.

Hawaiian Turkey Burgers
8 oz sliced pineapple
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1 green onion, thinly sliced
1 large red bell pepper, chopped
1 Tbs soy sauce
1 1/4 pound ground turkey
1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
6 slices your favorite cheese, we just used cheddar
6 hamburger buns
your favorite hamburger fixings

Coat grill rack with non stick spray.  Drain pineapple, reserving 1/4 cup juice; set pineapple aside.

In a bowl combine bread crumbs, green onion, bell pepper, soy sauce, salt, and reserved pineapple juice.  Crumble ground turkey over mixture and mix well.  Shape into six patties.

Grill, covered, over medium heat for  about 4 minutes on each side.  Brush with teriyaki sauce.  Grill 4-6 minutes longer or until no longer pink,  Grill pineapple slices for 2 minutes on each side, basting with teriyaki sauce.  Warm buns on grill; top each with a  burger and pineapple slice.

Set out your favorite burger toppings and let the family make their own burgers!
